JYSK Ramps Up UK Expansion with Strategic Leeds Opening and New Nordic Collections

Danish homeware retailer JYSK is pressing ahead with its ambitious growth strategy across the United Kingdom, confirming the opening of its newest branch in Leeds next month. The store, situated at South Retail Park on Tulip Street, marks the brand’s 24th UK location and its third opening this year alone. Known globally for its Scandinavian design ethos and pronounced ‘yoosk’, the firm has recently established footprints in Greater Manchester and Liverpool, solidifying its presence in the north of England.

Boosting the Yorkshire Economy

This latest venture represents a significant milestone for the international chain. Beyond expanding its brick-and-mortar network, the Leeds launch is generating 15 new jobs, with recruitment drives already in motion. The new site will join an established cluster of JYSK stores in the region, including branches in York, Bradford, Dewsbury, Pontefract, and Wakefield, alongside other 2021 additions in Barnsley and Gainsborough.

Jenny Johnston, the sales and marketing manager for the UK and Ireland, described the move into Leeds—one of the UK’s top five cities—as a major accomplishment. She noted that while the brand already boasts a loyal customer base in Yorkshire, bringing their products directly into the regional metropolis feels like a significant step forward.

Crucially, the Leeds branch, scheduled to open its doors on August 26, is the first JYSK store this year to launch without the shadow of lockdown restrictions. Johnston highlighted this as a genuine cause for celebration following the “tumultuous challenges” faced by the entire retail sector over the previous twelve months.

Focus on “Hygge” and Home Interiors

As the retailer expands its physical presence, it continues to refresh its product lines, bringing the quintessential Nordic aesthetic to British homes. The store is renowned for its expertise in sleeping products—ranging from mattresses and duvet sets to bedframes—but its latest seasonal collections also emphasise tactile home accessories and furniture designed to create a warm, inviting atmosphere.

Shoppers exploring the new aisles can expect to find pieces that blend functionality with the popular ‘Scandi-chic’ style. Among the highlights of the current range is the MIMMI satin bedding set. Finished in an elegant sand tone, this set features a luxurious 200-thread-count satin weave that feels cool to the touch, making it suitable for year-round use. It bears the STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX® certification, ensuring it is free from harmful substances, and is finished with a subtle pigment print for a refined look.

Sustainable Living and Statement Furniture

The furniture selection remains a core draw for the brand, with the EGEDAL 2.5-seater sofa standing out as a key piece for the living room. Upholstered in a warming terracotta polyester fabric, the sofa sits on solid wood legs, offering a natural contrast to the plush, foam-filled cushions. Measuring approximately 170cm in width, it accommodates two to three people and carries the FSC® Mix label, appealing to environmentally conscious consumers looking for sustainable forestry credentials.

Complementing larger furniture items, the accessories range focuses on organic shapes and textures. The OTTO candle holder, crafted from almond-coloured glass, stands 10cm tall and is designed to add a soft, ambient glow to shelves or windowsills. Its fluid, curved design allows it to function as a standalone art object even when not in use.

For those looking to add texture to their floors, the GYLLENLAKK rug offers versatility for both indoor and outdoor spaces. Measuring 160 x 230cm and woven from robust polypropylene, it is resistant to dirt and moisture, making it practical for high-traffic areas or summer terraces. Finally, the PETTER plant pot introduces a rustic element to the collection. Made from banana leaf and seagrass with a recycled plastic lining, this 21cm-high pot highlights the retailer’s shift towards natural, textured materials, perfect for housing medium-sized houseplants.
