A Swedish-based multinational developer and supplier of software and hardware technologies for the marine industry has announced that it will open a new office in Mumbai, India.
Transas offers technology based solutions for maritime security services, shipping companies and ship operators, and naval and coast guard organisations.
The company, which has been present in India for a number of years and conducted several projects in the region, is now looking to build on its existing foothold in the Indian marine sector.
As part of the restructuring of operations in India, the company has appointed a new managing director of Transas India, Shailendra Shukla.
Commenting on the new office opening in Mumbai, Shukla said: "After being present in the Indian market for over 12 years, we decided to intensify our focus and demonstrate long term commitment to India by setting up our first office in the heart of the commercial capital Mumbai.
"Besides being the third largest economy in Asia, India is a significant maritime nation. We expect Indian operations to contribute substantially to Transas top line growth in the next three to four years."
The Indian based operations will be overseen by the company’s marine international headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Transas also said in a statement that its Indian arm will continue to cooperate with its long-term partner in the Indian marine market, Elcome Marine Services Pvt. Ltd.
In March, Hatteland Display, another European IT company in the marine sector, announced that it was appointing Elcome as a distributor of its products in India.
Earlier in the week, Transas Marine announced further developments in the Asian market with the award of a contract by the Indonesian Government to supply and install vessel traffic management systems to two ports.
